As I have moved back home due to the coronavirus outbreak, and don't have access to any of the Microsoft programs, I have decided to revert back to Blogger for my weekly updates as I can't access Word anymore.
I spent the beginning of the week working towards my other module's deadlines.
As this module is worth more credits however, I soon started focussing on the documentary again. I began by sketching out a walk cycle in Photoshop. I based this on my rough storyboard and scene breakdown, as the storyboard artist still hadn't completed the official storyboard, yet the Gantt chart required that I start animation this week.
I struggle with timing in general, and had originally intended to use TVPaint to animate this documentary as I can easily change the duration of certain frames. However, I can't access TVPaint from home, and I can't afford to buy it, so this means I need to be mindful of time as I know I am much slower when working in Photoshop.
As the week went on, I added colour to the animation and slowed the footage down so that her walk looked more determined and less rushed, as this is the scene where she is marching in front of her army.
It was at this point that the storyboard was finished. I made it clear in the group chat that people need to follow the Gantt chart and update the Drive regularly to avoid wasting time; redesigning scenes that had already been animated. I also said everyone needed to be honest with the rest of the team with what they are and aren't capable of completing in time. If a project is too big, let the rest of the team know so that we can share out the workload. Keeping this information hidden until the day before or of the deadline, is too late.
I later messaged my teammates about the background I was after for this shot and nearing the end of the week, once they had finished a background, I added this into the Photoshop file and transformed the background layer so I could get a sense of the timing.
Then at the weekend, I started another scene. Once more, I have struggled with the timing but as I am working on video layers, I am finding it difficult to go back and fix mistakes that are now clear to me.
